Zeenews.com, in a report dated 29th January, 2011, entitled “Chinese link to Karmapa cash haul?” confirms the seizure of over 6 crore rupees from the offices of a trust supported by the 17th Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje. In the midst of the baffling haul is speculation surrounding the Karmapa’s supposed links with authorities in China.

The report goes on to mention the support that the Karmapa has received from Tibetan authorities, including the Dalai Lama and quotes Pempa Tsering, the Speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile who says, “Lack of knowledge of law and rules could be behind the keeping of money in huge amount which came through donations.”
